From the author, “This was a dress my dad bought for me because I wasn’t all that interested in shopping. My dad wanted to do something maternal for me (he also wanted to “make my wedding hat” later on, which I didn’t allow). The dress is a couple of sizes too big, as a result of me not actually shopping for it, so everyone who was in a picture with me was supposed to pull my dress back so that it looked like it fit.”

From today’s author, defending her hard-to-make-cracks-about-simple-gown, “I was covered with masses of ribbons and lace the year before (prairie revival Gunne Sax dress of the early 80’s). I would have sent a pic of that atrocity but I couldn’t find one. I married the guy in the photo—he was much cuter than the picture shows (bad photo of him), but as he says now, “Hey, at least I had hair back then!”
